My photographs are an accumulation of everything I have learned in every part of my life. Georgia O'Keefe has said that a painting is not independent of the artist-it is an outpouring of everything experienced up to that point. My photographic approach is a combination of creativity, experience and something magical as I become involved in the process. My work is partly artistic instinct and partly technical knowledge that I have spent years living with and learning about.
Ernest E. Briscoe
My Dad, Ernie Briscoe, influenced my work. He was my worst critic and my best teacher, as he held me to the standards he achieved in his black and white prints. Dad was a Master of the Ansel Adams "Zone Method," the art of producing crisp, clear tonality from black and white negatives. Having studied at the L.A. Art Center School in the early 1940s, he learned the intense and time-consuming technique it took to develop negatives with visual acuity and artistic clarity. He taught me respect for the profession and shared his love for the art of photography.
I bring this passion, history, and practical experience to my commercial photography, and I carry forward the tradition of my Dad's techniques, creativity and inspiration. That is why I have named my company Briscoe Productions. If you are one of my students, you'll hear about my Dad. If you are one of my clients, you'll receive a part of my Dad.
